Hi, I'm Erin. I am a displaced Midwesterner who's been living in Eastern North Carolina since 2008.
I have always loved the feeling my feet moving me places - running, walking, cycling, or hiking. I'm happiest when I'm out and about, seeing the world, its people and places.
The blog -Would Rather Walk or Run - began in 2011 as a chronicle of my attempt to run 1011 miles. I failed spectacularly, completing just 600 miles of "The Plan." In 2012, I set out to run 750 miles, undertake some projects, and jump some hurdles in "The Year of Firsts." 2013 proved to me that lists are made to be challenged; 20 of my "30 for 30" List were completed and my failures taught me just as much as my victories. 2014 brought found me busier than ever (check out my IG feed @erin_is_curious) but all but silent here.
Fast forward 5 years and I've rechristened this space - Do the Hard Work. On August 21, 2019 I started Andy Frisella's #75Hard program, which is a mental grit challenge that I hope will catapult me past some big blocks and into my best life. (By the way, in 2017, on my fourth attempt, I succeeded and ran 1000 miles in 1 year. I just didn't write about it.)
Some things about me:
Due to rabid curiosity and poor discipline, I'm not fantastic at any one thing but I have the exuberance to try it all.
I've had enough experience to not take my health for granted and I have forgiven genetics for giving me gray hair at 18.
I think our world is a fantastic place and now is a pretty awesome time to be alive.
Welcome.
