#19: One month to go

Y'all, tomorrow is one month to the Outerbanks Half Marathon, where I will attempt to break 1:50:00, so I can cross #19 off my list.

Looking at my training, all I can think about is how amazing the human body is. 11 weeks ago, I struggled to run 1.5 miles.

This past Sunday, I ran nearly 12.

Last night I ran 5 miles on the part of the Capital Greenway that snakes around the North Carolina Art Museum campus, across a pedestrian bridge spanning an ever-busy freeway, and along the Meredith College campus. Gray, drizzling, windy, autumn finally made a true showing.

I minded my steps on the pavement slick with rain, slippery with fallen pineneedles. Thought about many things, including how far I've come as a runner, both this season and on the whole.

This Friday I board a jet plane and head to the opposite coast, first to Pacific Grove and then up to San Francisco. And thanks to Google, I've already been able to glimpse what I'm going to get to see when I slip out to run.

I imagine you will be able to hear my contented sigh all the way from there.
